Docent Nicole Acerra presenteert deze masterclass via een livestreamverbinding vanuit Canada. De scholing vindt plaats in Conferentiecentrum Kaap Doorn, alwaar de praktijkonderdelen worden begeleid door Berry van Teeffelen, fysiotherapeut / manueel therapeut en NPi-cursuscoördinator.

Voorkennis, voorwaarden, ingangsniveau

Deze masterclass is alleen toegankelijk voor oud-cursisten van de NPi-cursus ‘Fysiotherapie bij perifeer vestibulaire duizeligheid’ en/of de NPi-masterclass ‘Advanced Rehabilitation for Vestibular Disorders and Cervicogenic Dizziness’ of een vergelijkbare scholing, en die ervaring hebben met het behandelen van mensen met BPPV.

Doel

Participants will be able to:

• describe the pathophysiology of BPPV
• take a vestibular history
• assess and interpret complicated and uncomplicated forms of BPPV
• differentially diagnose BPPV
• demonstrate treatment techniques for posterior, anterior, and horizontal canal BPPV
• modify BPPV treatment for patients who are elderly or less physically mobile.

Beschrijving

Het NPi organiseert geregeld zgn. 'masterclasses'. Onder een masterclass verstaan we: een scholingsactiviteit, gegeven door een (inter-)nationaal gerenommeerde expert, die qua inhoud vernieuwend is voor paramedici die zich in een bepaalde richting hebben gespecialiseerd, en waarvoor een duidelijk omschreven ingangsniveau geldt.

This advanced, case-based, practical course provides in-depth training for the assessment and treatment of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV). We review 12 different treatments as well as strategies to manage complications such as motion sensitivity, persistent recurrence of BPPV, and other clinical challenges. This course is relevant to orthopaedic, neurological, and geriatric patient populations.

Through case studies and hands-on practice, participants will better understand complex presentations of BPPV, interpretation of assessment findings, differential diagnosis, treatment of complicated BPPV, strategies for less mobile patients, self-management techniques, and motion intolerance. Participants receive a comprehensive course manual that includes all relevant outcome measures and references.

Over de docent
Nicole Acerra, PhD, is a physiotherapist with a passion for neurological and vestibular rehabilitation. She completed her psychology and physiotherapy degrees at Queen’s University, Canada, her doctoral studies at The University of Queensland, Australia and her post-doctoral research at the University of British Columbia (UBC), Canada. Nicole has 20 years clinical experience treating patients in acute, rehab, and outpatient settings across Canada, the US, and Australia. Nicole is currently the Clinical Resource Therapist for Neuro/Spine Populations for Vancouver Coastal Health. Nicole treats patients with complex vestibular and facial disorders, provides vestibular and neurological post-graduate courses and webinars, and is Clinical Faculty at UBC. Nicole has presented at the World Congresses of Neurology, Pain, and Physical Therapy, and has published her research in high-ranking journals such as Neurology.
